I hate not having any kind of sweets in my house during weekends. However, I don't always have the mood or time for more complex recipes such as a Mousse Cake. For these craving moments, I usually go with something easy.
Until recently, an apple strudel was the lucky winner for these kinds of situations. However, I have developed something even easier to make. All you need are 6 ingredients to prepare this and 15 minutes if you go with the shortcut. At the end, you will have the most delicious thing ever. So here is what you have to do.
- If you can find dulce de leche that is already made, don't even fuss about making your own. In Romania, dulce de leche is not very popular. So I don't take my chances and try to find it in supermarkets. Yet, making a can of this amazing God's creation at home is not hard. It is just time-consuming.
- Take a can of sweetened condensed milk and put it in a big pot. Cover it completely with water and let it boil at low heat for 3 hours. You will need to stay close and fill the pot with more water as the can needs to be submerged at all times. That's it. You have dulce de leche.
I honestly always have a can ready in my house. You can boil more than one can at once and store them unopened at room temperature for 3 months.
- Put the Oreos in your food processor and pulse until you crumble them completely. Leave aside.
- Cut the bananas into 1 cm slices. Heat up the butter in a pan and fry them on medium heat for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden. If you want them more caramelized, you can sprinkle some brown sugar in the pan with the butter. I honestly don't think it is necessary, yet you might think differently.
- In the meantime, chop your strawberries any way you might like. I like them quite chunky, but feel free to improvise.
- Take a cup or bowl of your choice. Put a spoon of crumbled Oreos at the bottom and then continue adding the layers: a tbsp of dulce de leche, some hot bananas, a tbsp of vanilla ice cream, a bunch of strawberry slices, and finally another tbsp of crumbled Oreos. Repeat for the other 3 cups.
- And that's it, my friends. Simple and delicious, perfect for a quick and lazy Sunday afternoon when you want to eat something sweet but are not in the mood to waste too much time in the kitchen.
This dish is so easy to make that I don't even have any wiki facts to tell you about. Therefore, I will finish this article with an 'enjoy your meal' and let us know on Instagram when making it.
* Any dulce de leche leftovers may be kept in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
